MADISON — NCB39 Battalion, US Naval Sea Cadet Corps, recently passed its annual inspection with one of the best scores the unit has ever received. The inspection, held at the Madison American Legion Hall, started with the cadets in a military formation followed by a presentation of the colors by the unit’s color guard, according to a news release from the cadet corps. Lt. Cmdr. Holly Forbes, NSCC, director New England Region 1-5, then accomplished the open-ranks portion of the inspection.

Once this portion of the unit’s inspection was completed, Forbes called cadet recruits Dylan Massey and Kira Braley to front and center and swore them into the unit. She then called cadets Trevor Edes and Conner Fennell front and center and promoted each of them to E-3. Ensign Margaret Demchak, NSCC, was then called to front and center and promoted to lieutenant junior grade, NSCC.

Petty Officer 1st Class Riley K. Coleman, NSCC, was called to front and center. Forbes presented Coleman with her promotion to chief petty officer, NSCC. Coleman’s father was called from the audience and he and Forbes “pinned” the new rank onto now Riley Coleman’s dress uniform collars.

Forbes and H. Ralph Withee, Madison Legion Post 39 commander, each addressed the cadets and the audience. A formal closing ceremony followed. Inspection of the unit’s financial, training and advancement records was next followed by a formal luncheon.

The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps program is open to 11-to 17-year-old males and females.
