GARDINER — Children are invited to participate in an Easter egg scavenger hunt and celebration of spring Saturday, April 4, throughout downtown.

Children’s activities run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Before scouring storefronts in downtown Gardiner, pick up a scorecard inside Bam Jam Candy Shop, 226 Water St., to catalog the number of eggs of all shapes and sizes on display, according to a news release from Gardiner Main Street. In addition to candy prizes for participants, a drawing among completed scorecards for other prizes will be held.

The Easter bunny will hop around Water Street for fun and games with children as well as pose for photographs. Spring and Easter-themed crafts and games will take place in Johnson Park during the event. Professor Smartypants will provide roving entertainment for kids of all ages.

Select Water Street businesses have offered space on their storefront windows for a spring spruce-up. Gardiner Main Street will offer creative supplies to interested children who wish to “Spring up Gardiner” by painting temporary, spring-themed works in dedicated space in storefront windows of participating merchants, according to the release. Those interested can reserve a space for this project at the Gardiner Main Street website, or take chances and get supplies on the street the day of the event.

The event will conclude with egg hunts in Johnson Park, 280 Water St. There will be several sessions for different age groups. Rain location for the egg hunt will be inside Johnson Hall, 280 Water St.
