Firefighters in the neighboring towns of Whitefield and Windsor were called to a pair of Sunday morning fires.

Nobody was injured in either fire, neither of which caused significant damage to the buildings.

The first fire was reported around 9:15 a.m. at 74 Jefferson Rd. in Whitefield after a candle set fire to a dining room table.

The second fire was sparked around 11:30 a.m. by a wood stove in a garage at 319 Wingood Road in Windsor.

Whitefield Fire Chief Tom Feeney said the homeowners had extinguished the Jefferson Road blaze by the time firefighters arrived, but fire crews doused the smoldering remains.

“We were able to extinguish it pretty quickly,” Feeney said.

The contents of the room were badly damaged, he said, but the 1 1/2 story home itself received little fire damage. There was smoke damage throughout, however.

Two people were home when the fire broke out. Both got out safely and both declined medical treatment.

“They’re back in the house,” Feeney said.

Firefighters from Jefferson, Somerville and Alna were called to help with the fire, but were called off before arriving.

Crews cleared from that fire around 10:30 a.m. and in about an hour were called to help with the Wingood Road fire. Windsor Fire Chief Arthur Strout said the garage where the fire occurred was attached to the house.

“As luck would have it the owner had pulled the stove out of the garage so there was minimal damage,” Strout said. He estimated the fire caused less than $2,000 damage to the building.

Firefighters from Somerville and Whitefield were called to help, but the fire was quickly doused.

“The fire was out by the time I got there,” Strout said.
