WATERVILLE — Husson University’s Michaela Bicknell scored the go-ahead goal with 15 minutes, 1 second remaining in the second half as the Eagles spoiled senior night for the Thomas College women’s lacrosse team with a 7-6 win at Smith Field on Wednesday.

Thomas (7-3, 6-2 North Atlantic Conference) led 6-4 early in the second half but Husson (6-5, 5-2 NAC) closed the game with three unanswered scores to pick up the win. Amanda Deshaies paced the Eagles with three goals and Bicknell scored twice.

Gardiner graduate Jenn Day had three goals for the Terriers, Brittany Premo scored twice and Allie McCarthy made 13 saves.

SOFTBALL

HUSSON 11-6, UMF 0-1: Kayla Merrill tossed a no-hitter in Game 1 and had five hits on the day as the Eagles swept the Beavers in Bangor.

The first game was shortened to five innings. Merrill walked two and struck out four, and also went 3-for-3 at the plate with a solo home run. Chelsea Brennan socked a three-run shot.

Merrill pitched three shutout innings to earn the save in Game 2. Husson (14-8, 3-1 NAC) scored three unearned runs with the score tied 1-1 in the fourth inning to take the lead for good. Shelby Bryant walked twice and scored a run for UMF (2-12, 1-7 NAC).
