ORONO, — The University of Maine is investigating whether seven football players violated the Student Conduct Code by accepting meals at the university’s dining commons over the past month.

Spokeswoman Margaret Nagle said the university has contacted the NCAA to discuss the allegations. She said it’s unclear whether accepting free meals would constitute an NCAA violation.

The names of the student-athletes were not released.

They have been referred to UMaine’s Conduct Office to determine if the student code of conduct was violated. No disciplinary action has been taken, and the athletes are able to participate in spring practices.
