READFIELD — A house at 10 Giles Road was likely destroyed after a fire that started in a wall spread throughout much of the home on Sunday night.

Readfield Fire Chief Lee Mank said the blaze, which started in the wall between the house’s kitchen and a bathroom, was reported around 10 p.m. He said firefighters knocked the main fire down quickly, but it spread to other parts of the home, creating many hot spots. He said crews didn’t clear the scene until 3 a.m. on Monday morning.

Mank said it caused “heavy damage” in the home. Town records say the home is owned by Shelia L. McNamara, and Mank said the house is likely a total loss. He said there were no injuries in the fire, which is being investigated by the Maine fire marshal’s office. Readfield’s department was helped at the scene by departments from Wayne, Fayette, Mount Vernon, Vienna and Manchester.
