AUGUSTA — Not Your Ordinary 5K race is set for 9 a.m. Sunday, May 17, in Capitol Park and along the Kennebec River Rail Trail. Registration will begin at 8 a.m.

The day will include challenges to push mind and body in a race against the clock, while testing nature knowledge, wilderness skills and problem-solving abilities. Those who can walk or jog for 3.1 miles, can do this fun event, making it suitable for adults and children of all ages, according to a news release from event organizers.

All team or individual registrants will receive an event T-shirt. The top three male and female finishers will earn gift cards. Council mugs and organic tote bags stuffed with books by Maine authors go to those who reach fundraising goals too.

All funds raised will benefit the council’s work safeguarding Maine’s air, water, wildlife and forests.
