AUGUSTA — The Cony softball team bounced back in fine fashion just two days after committing 12 errors in a lopsided loss to Oxford Hills, and defeated Lewiston 12-0 in six innings Friday behind a no-hitter from Arika Brochu.

The senior pitcher — who struck out six in the win — also got it done at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double. Sydney Cheever had three hits, including a home run and double, for the Rams (1-1) while Skyler Watson also belted a home run.

Cony committed just a single error in the victory. Oxford Hills fell to 0-2 with the loss.

GARDINER 4, LEAVITT 2: Lauren Chadwick hit a two-run triple in the fifth inning to help the Tigers double up the Hornets in the season opener for both teams.

Bri Brochu added a single and two RBIs for the Tigers, who broke a scoreless game with four runs in the fifth inning. Kristal Smith earned the victory, striking out 10 and allowing just three walks and two hits.

Leavitt (0-1) scored two unearned runs.

DIRIGO 16, MONMOUTH 3: Caroline Bonanfant homered to support a strong performance from pitcher Katelyn Olsen as Dirigo took the MVC opener for both teams. Ellen Wainwright had three singles for Dirigo (1-0) as well.

Monmouth dropped to 0-1.

BASEBALL

HALL-DALE 5, OAK HILL 3: Ryan Sinclair had two hits and came on for the seventh inning to pick up the save as the Bulldogs scored a Mountain Valley Conference win over the Raiders in the season opener for both teams.

Tyler DuBois and starting pitcher Brian Allen each had doubles for Hall-Dale (1-0), while Dalton Therrien had a pair of singles for Oak Hill (0-1).

GIRLS LACROSSE

GREELY 13, GARDINER 7: Meghan O’Donovan scored four goals and Courtney Sullivan added three to lead the Rangers. Jamie Foley had eight saves to earn the victory. Evelyn Hinkly scored three goals and Emma Hickey added two to pace Gardiner (0-1). Riley Grady had six saves for the Tigers.
