A home on Hunter Road in Dresden was destroyed by fire Friday.

Dresden Fire Chief Steve Lilly said nobody was hurt in the blaze, but the two-story home at 131 Hunter Road was destroyed. He said Janet Stewart owns the home.

Two dogs that live in the home were found safe outside.

Lilly said he wasn’t sure how the fire started. An investigator from the Office of the State Fire Marshal arrived Friday afternoon to try to determine what sparked the blaze.

Nobody was home when the fire broke out shortly before noon.

“When the first units arrived, it was fully involved,” Lilly said.

Getting to the fire proved difficult because of the muddy road leading into the home, Lilly said. Firefighters had to haul hoses manually about a half mile back to the main road, where the trucks were parked.

“We had issues with the road being as soft as it is,” Lilly said. “The first few trucks came in and the road got too soft to get anything else in.”

Firefighters from several surrounding communities assisted Dresden crews in fighting the blaze. Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Pittston, Randolph, Richmond, West Bath, Wiscasset and Woolwich firefighters ultimately responded to the call.
