The Maine State Credit Union’s 10th annual Walk to End Hunger and first ever 5K Road Race is planned for Saturday, May 9.

Over the past nine years, the credit union’s annual walk has raised more than $150,000 for food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters in Kennebec and Somerset counties. Every penny has been returned to the community, according to their website.

Package pickups by the Rail Trail across from the Kennebec Valley YMCA start at 7 a.m.

The race and walk start and finish on the Kennebec River Rail Trail — Capitol Park — in front of the Kennebec Valley YMCA. The 5K starts at 8 a.m., and the walk at 10 a.m.

Registration for the walk begins at 8:30 a.m. and is free.

Registration for the 5K costs is $27.95 through Friday, May 8, and $30 day of race. Registration starts at 7 a.m.

Participants are invited to raise donations through registration on the website, by downloading a pledge form and bringing funds to the event, or stopping by Maine State Credit Union’s main office at 200 Capitol St, Augusta.
