The Maine Spirit of America Foundation Recognition Ceremony recently was held at the Hall of Flags at the Capitol in Augusta. More than 70 people from across the state, that included seven counties, were recognized for their volunteer efforts.

Directors and guest speakers were Roger Pomerleau, Spirit of America Foundation director; Maeghan Maloney, district attorney for Kennebec and Somerset counties and foundation director; Terrance McCabe, foundation president; guest speaker C. Wayne Mitchell, professional motivational speaker; Amy Fowler, county commissioner for Waldo County and foundation director; David Worthing, foundation vice president and chairman of this event; guest speaker Chuck Mahaleris, staff assistant for Sen. Susan M. Collins, R-Maine; Bruce Flaherty, foundation founding father; and Irene Belanger, foundation director. Guest speakers also included Sen. Roger Katz, R-Augusta, and Don Brown, a radio announcer for 40-plus years.
