New England Music Camp announces Summer Music Series

SIDNEY — Snow Pond Center for the Arts and the New England Music Camp announces its 2015 Summer Music Series. This season will feature performers from the lights of Broadway, a visit from a United States Military Band, and NEMC’s 36th Annual Pops Concert.

The series kicks off with the Snow Pond Music Festival, featuring special performances from the Frederick L. Hempke Saxophone Institute and the Maine Chamber Music Seminar. The festival runs from May 31 to June 21, and various recitals and performances will be listed on Snow Pond Calendar. For a complete listing, visit www.snowpond.org.

The Bangor Symphony will kick off New England Music Camp’s 79th summer, with a special concert at the Bowl-In-The-Pines on June 28. NEMC Alumni, Evan Wilson will solo with the Symphony, under the baton of music director and conductor Lucas Richman. The concert will begin at 3 p.m.. Tickets: $15 general admission, $9 students.

Broadway is coming to Snow Pond on July 5 for Broadway Under the Stars. Broadway Music Director Paul Staroba (“A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder”), will lead the cast of Broadway Veterans that includes Patty Goble (“Ragtime,” “Phantom of the Opera”), Mark Hardy (“Les Miserables,” “Titanic”), Marian Murphy Powell (“Les Miserables,” “Bright Lights,” “Big City”), and Sal Viviano (“City of Angels,” “The Full Monty”). This one-night-only Broadway themed concert under the stars and lights at The Bowl-In-The-Pines concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets: $18 general admission, $9 students.

New England Music Camp students will meet and work with alumni guest artist, Darmon Meador of the New York Voices. Meador will have several live performances while he is in residency at NEMC from July 6-13. Schedule of events to be determined.

New England Music Camp will present its 36th Annual Pops Concert at 7:30 p.m. July 18 at the Messalonskee Performing Arts Center in Oakland. The NEMC Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Chorale, and Jazz Ensemble will perform in this energetic performance that also features a silent auction. All proceeds go directly to the NEMC scholarship fund. Seating is limited. Tickets: $20.

An NEMC tradition, Maine Appreciation Day, will be celebrated 1-5 p.m. Sunday, July 19, Bowl-In-The-Pines. The Artisan Market will begin at 1 p.m. and run throughout the 3 p.m. concert. Various area artists, craftsmen and gourmet carts will sell their goods at the free event.

The Air Force Strolling Strings will perform July 31 at the Bowl-In-The-Pines. Attendees can enjoy a barbecue picnic, while the strings stroll amongst the trees, followed by a concert to feature select NEMC campers and faculty. The concert is free, the barbecue cost $10 for adults, $5 for veterans and children 11 and younger.

The final performance of the season will be by New England Music Camp’s musical theater students in their performance of Into The Woods by Stephen Sondheim. Directed by Marian Murphy Powell. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 7-8 in Alumni Hall. Tickets: $15 adults, $9 students.

NEMC will hold free weekend concerts and weekly recitals throughout the summer. All concerts are held at the Bowl-In-The Pines and all recitals at Alumni Hall. NEMC Concerto Competition winners will perform with the faculty orchestra on July 15 and Aug. 5.

Concert dates: July 4, 5, 11, 12, 19, 25, 26 and Aug. 1, 2, 8 and 9.

Recital dates: July 1, 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24, 29, 30 and Aug. 5.
