FAIRFIELD — Several car burglaries during the early morning hours Wednesday in a downtown area probably are linked, police said.

The seven cars, which were all unlocked, were burglarized between midnight and 6 a.m. Wednesday, said Officer Patrick Mank, who is investigating most of the cases.

The vehicle burglaries occurred on Main Street, Bartlett Street, Woodman Avenue, Connor Avenue and Kelley Street. Stolen from the cars were cash, loose change and electronics, Mank said.

“It’s mostly been happening in downtown, what we call the east side of the interstate,” Mank said. “We are investigating and do believe the ones that occurred Wednesday are linked together.”

Mank said the burglaries highlight the importance of people locking their vehicles, which easily can deter would-be burglars.”We do strongly suggest people lock their vehicles,” he said.

Police asked that anyone with information about the vehicle burglaries call the Police Department at 453-9322.
