FAIRFIELD — Police are looking for a man they suspect stole a tractor-trailer truck from the lot of a construction company and smashed it through the gate.

The truck was found abandoned on the southbound entrance ramp at Interstate 95’s exit 132, less than a mile from where it was stolen.

A Sheridan Corp. employee reported the theft around 5:10 a.m., according to Fairfield Detective Sgt. Paul St. Amand.

The construction company has a truck lot on Sheridan Drive off Center Road, which is Route 139.

Police think the thief climbed over the fence at the lot, took control of the truck and drove it through the main gate, causing serious damage. The truck is described as a Mac semi with a low-bed trailer. The keys were in the truck, according to St. Amand.

As police were taking the initial call, the truck was found on the interstate ramp. The truck was damaged but still operable, St. Amand said.

Police are looking for a man caught on surveillance video at the Circle K truck stop on Center Road almost directly across the street from Sheridan Drive. The footage was taken about 3:30 a.m., St. Amand said.

Fairfield police ask that anyone with information about the theft call 453-9322.
