Bath police arrested a 71-year-old man Sunday for reckless conduct with a firearm after he allegedly fired a gun out his front door while in arguing with his wife, police said.

Police were called to 19 Crawford Drive at 10 p.m. Sunday by the woman who lives there. She told them that her husband Henry Cygan was outside trying to force his way into the house.

Police arrived and took Cygan into custody.

The couple had been arguing throughout the day and at one point, Cygan went to his bedroom and got a 9 mm handgun which he then fired through the glass of the front door, toward the house across the street, police said.

Cygan then went outside to see if the bullet had damaged his truck in the driveway. When he did, his wife locked the door behind him and called 911, police said.

When police arrived, Cygan was trying to use a knife to force open the lock of the house, police said.

Police charged him with reckless conduct with a firearm, which is a class C felony. Police seized the gun as part of the investigation.

Cygan was being held in the Two Bridges Regional Jail on $500 bail. He has a Sept. 15 court date in West Bath.
