With a 52-game winning streak that includes three Class D state titles, Richmond High School’s softball team has pushed its way into the state’s record books. Now, it is receiving national recognition.

MaxPreps, a national web site that covers high school sports, named Richmond its 2015 Small Schools Softball Team of the Year on Tuesday.

The accompanying article, which incorrectly identifies head coach Rick Coughlin as “Rock” Coughlin, cites the Bobcats for winning their third consecutive Class D softball championship with their 9-4 win over Stearns. They finished 18-0 in 2015 to extend their winning streak and become just the second Class D team to win three straight titles. Jonesport-Beals accomplished the feat 1992-94.

The article also acknowledges senior first baseman Kelsie Obi for playing the state senior all-star game and sophomore pitcher Meranda Martin and freshman catcher Sydney Tilton for being named to the state underclassmen all-star team.
