EAST MADISON — As part of East Madison Days, Quilts of Valor were presented to six area veterans on Sunday, July 19. Veterans honored were Ronald McEwen, Ron Page, Joseph Arsenault, Richard Henderson, Russell Clement and Eric Lahti.

Each quilt was made by a member of the East Madison Quilt and Needlework group and had red, white and blue motifs. A label on each quilt identified the name of the person who pieced and quilted it along with the following sentiment: Quilt of Valor, Valor, Integrity, Honor, May these serve you, Throughout your life, As you served us, and Thank you for your service.

Each recipient also received a letter thanking them for their service, according to a news release from the group.

The quilt group also provides quilts for Project Linus, Hats for Newborns and has its own ‘fire box’ with quilts to give to families who are burned out of their homes. In the latter case, each family member receives a quilt to help them through this crisis.
