AUGUSTA — An Augusta woman was hospitalized and charged with operating under the influence following a Riverside Drive accident early Sunday morning.

Police said Kendra Swails, 28, was taken by Augusta ambulance to MaineGeneral Medical Center with minor injuries following the two-vehicle accident, which was reported at 4:45 a.m. Sunday.

Sgt. Christian Behr said it appeared Swails was driving a 2007 Chevy pickup truck northbound, but on the wrong — southbound — side of Riverside Drive. She collided head-on with a southbound 2005 Ford Ranger driven by Joshua Turcotte, 40, of Vassalboro.

Neither Turcotte nor a male passenger with Swails were injured.

Swails was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, police said.
