Cure HHT will host the Cure HHT Team Maine Walk Sunday, Oct. 11. Net proceeds will benefit Cure HHT.

The walk begins at 9 a.m. at Cony High School in Augusta, and will be followed by a post-event celebration with food, music, raffle drawings and race awards, according to a news release from organizers. People can register as a runner or walker to help reach the goal of raising $5,000 to support research and awareness efforts aimed at curing Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia.

HHT is a genetic disorder that affects about 1 of every 5,000 people in the U.S., according to the release. It causes malformed blood vessels that lead to sudden and extreme bleeding throughout the body. There is currently no cure.
