Drug enforcement agents raided a New Portland Road home Tuesday in Anson, seizing heroin and marijuana and arresting a suspected heroin dealer.

Eugene Houle, 24, of 40 New Portland Road, was charged with trafficking in illegal drugs by Maine Drug Enforcement Agency agents.

The Maine DEA’s Augusta-based central task force had conducted an investigation into the sale of heroin from Houle’s residence over the last several months and made a number of undercover purchases of the drug from the home, according to a written statement from Cmdr. Peter Arno.

Agents executed a search warrant on the house Tuesday and seized 0.5 gram of heroin with a street value of $300, as well as more than 2 pounds of marijuana, 26 marijuana plants in “various stages of growth” and two handguns. One of the handguns was loaded and in close proximity to the drugs that were seized, Arno said.

The case is still open and more arrests are likely, he added.

Houle was booked Tuesday afternoon at the Somerset County Jail on a class A charge of unlawful trafficking of scheduled illegal drugs and two class B charges of unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs, according to the jail staff.

Houle was freed on $1,000 cash bail the same day he was arrested, the jail staff said. His first court appearance is set for Oct. 14 in Somerset Superior Court.

Arno said Houle’s charges were related to the heroin and there are pending charges for the marijuana.
