I am writing in response to your article regarding disability denials.
Our son-in-law worked for the Maine Department of Transportation for more than 22 years. He was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer two and a half years ago. This cancer cannot be treated with chemo or radiation.
He lost his health benefits and his life insurance when he could no longer work. This has cost the family their life savings as they try to survive on the two jobs our daughter works.
This is wrong on so many levels. These people have worked hard for the state of Maine and deserve to receive their benefits when they no longer can work because of disease. This issue needs to be addressed and rectified immediately. People’s lives and dignity depend on this.
