Abby Hodgkins, a sophomore at Erskine Academy, wanted to work outdoors and volunteer doing something she enjoys, so she contacted the Viles Arboretum to inquire about helping out.

Mark Des Meules, Viles Arboretum executive director commented, “It’s always a pleasure to work with bright and initiative taking students and in this case Abby loves photography and her talents were exactly what we needed to document this year’s amazing Heirloom Apple Collection crop,” in an Arboretum news release.

Hodgkins’s top academic subjects include math and writing and her favorite pastimes are theatre and music. Her photographs will be used for the Arboretum Facebook Page, website, press releases and newsletter.

The Viles Arboretum has an active and ever changing selection of programs for the general public and for schools available through the Arboretum in Augusta. It focuses on interactive, creative and hands-on teaching with a focus on natural history and unlocking everyone’s natural ability to understand the nature of our world through your own eyes and by using your own intellect.
