AUGUSTA — The start of the high school football regular season is just a few days away, but it appears Cony will be without one of the state’s best players, Reid Shostak, for its opener at Mt. Blue on Friday night.

Shostak, a four-year starter who plays linebacker and running back for the Rams, dislocated his elbow during the team’s first full contact practice on Aug. 21, according to head coach B.L. Lippert.

The initial prognosis was that he would miss four to six weeks with the injury, but Lippert said they are taking a wait-and-see approach. Last season Shostak rushed for 686 yards and six touchdowns on 119 carries and also caught 39 passes for 442 yards and five touchdowns.
