AUGUSTA — Maine’s hunting season for migratory game birds is beginning and will continue through the fall around the state.

The seasons for snipes, rails and Canada geese began Sept. 1. Snipe season runs until Dec. 16 and rail reason lasts until Nov. 9. Canada goose season ends Sept. 25, resumes Oct. 1 and lasts until early January in some parts of the state.

The season for woodcock begins Oct. 1 and runs until Nov. 14. The seasons for different species of duck begin Sept. 28 and last until Jan. 30 in some parts of the state.

Different bird species are subject to different restrictions and bag limits. Rules can also differ based on what part of the state hunting takes place. Hunters are asked to consult with authorities.
