Ash Tree Talk, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Newfield

Demonstrations and craft making seminars in ash tree art will be held at the Willowbrook Village Museum. Basket-making, small boat restoration and bow-making are a few of the seminars that will take place. In addition, forest entomologists will discuss what landowners can do to help stop the emerald ash borer. The seminars are sponsored by the Willowbrook museum, ForestWorks!, and the Francis Small Heritage Trust.

Six Common Trees, 2 p.m. in Saco

Ferry Beach State Park offers nature programs every Wednesday in September. This week, the program will look at six common trees and the ecosystem of each. The program is free with park admission. Meet at the Nature Center. No reservations are needed. To learn more, call 283-0067 or go to maine.gov/ferrybeach.

Casting Class, 1:30 p.m. in Cape Elizabeth

State park manager Doc Dochtermann will lead two more surf casting classes at state beaches. Participants need only pay the park entry fee. The next class will be at Crescent Beach State Park, and the last class is at 2:30 p.m., Oct. 4, at Reid State Park in Georgetown. Dochtermann will show the equipment needed, then take the class fishing. Equipment and bait will be available, although fishermen should bring their own if they have it.
