VASSALBORO — Anthony Owens took medalist honors with a 38 but it was not enough as the Winthrop High School golf team fell to St. Dominic Academy 5-2 in the Mountain Valley Conference championship held at the front nine of Natanis’ Arrowhead Course on Monday afternoon.

“The kids played great and put up some great scores,” Winthrop coach Lonney Steeves said. “We just got beat.”

Owens defeated A.J. Parisi 3 and 1, while Charlie de Haas shot a 43 and defeated Justin Keaney 1-up for the Ramblers’ (9-1) two wins. St. Dom’s Nate Richards and Winthrop’s Zac Robertson each shot a 41 but Richards won the match 3 and 1.

Brandon Donovan defeated Brogan Plossay 3 and 1 while Janelle Bryant edged Spencer Steele 2 and 1 in the remaining two matches for St. Dom’s (9-1). The Saints also took the team total 174-177.

Earlier in the afternoon at Natanis Winthrop defeated Madison 7-0 to advance to the MVC finals. The Ramblers — who took the team total 170-190 — were once again led by Owens, who defeated Broc Campbell 1-up and took medalist honors with a 40.

In the remaining matches, de Haas topped Logan Smith 1-up, Plossay bested Noah Cowan 2-up, Robertson got past Allison Dean 4 and 3 and Carson Camick picked up a 3 and 1 win over Bain Kitchin.

FIELD HOCKEY

MESSALONSKEE 8, BREWER 0: Emily Hogan and Haley Lowell each scored three goals as Messalonskee cruised to a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference win in Brewer.

Hogan added two assists while Lydia Dexter and Autumn Littlefield accounted for the other goals. Hannah Pinney had one save for the Eagles (11-0). Michelle Maybury stopped 20 shots for the Witches (4-6).

DIRIGO 6, HALL-DALE 0: Lauren Henderson and Sophia Jacques each scored twice to lead Dirigo in Farmingdale.

Desirae Tracy-Radcliffe and Ashley Perreaul also scored for the Cougars (9-4). Kaylee Magee made 24 saves in the cage for the Bulldogs (0-13).

OAK HILL 4, TELSTAR 0: Erika Hannigan found the back of the cage twice to lead Oak Hill to an MVC win in Bethel.

Abby Asselin and Kyle Veilleux each added a goal and an assist for the Raiders (9-4). Abby Fuller stopped two shots in the cage, while Blair Stevens made 17 saves for the Rebels (4-9).

GIRLS SOCCER

HALL-DALE 3, LISBON 2: Thea Sweet scored two goals and assisted on the other as the Bulldogs nipped Lisbon in Farmingdale.

Lilly Ly scored the other goal for the Bulldogs (7-2-1). Hailey Taker made seven saves in net. Delia Schreiber had a goal and an assist for the Greyhounds (6-5-0) while Ali Sult made 20 saves.

MT. ABRAM 2, WINTHROP 0: Lindsay Huff and Emma Kearing each scored a goal in the first half as the Roadrunners blanked the Ramblers in Salem.

Abby Brackley preserved the shutout with two saves in goal for Mt. Abram (3-5-2). Shie Smith stopped seven shots for Winthrop (1-9).

BRUNSWICK 6, LAWRENCE 0: Kira Wolpow scored a hat trick to lead Brunswick in Fairfield.

Leah Schrapinsky added two goals and Emily Black one for the Dragons. Kayla Spencer and Dakota Goguen combined for 13 saves for the Bulldogs (2-10).

MADISON 6, DIRIGO 0: Ashley Emery and Kayla Bess notched two goals apiece to lead host Madison over Dirigo. Madeline Wood and Whitney Bess also scored for the Bulldogs (8-0-2), while Erin Whalen turned aside four shots in net. Mariah Lafleur had 15 saves for the Cougars (0-11).

OCEANSIDE 1, WINSLOW 0: Casey Pine scored the game’s only goal early in the second half to give the Mariners the KVAC B win over the Black Raiders in Thomaston.

Oceanside (9-0-1) goalkeeper Kalyn Grover knocked away a point-blank shot from Makenzie Carlow with 1:30 remaining to help preserve the win for the Mariners.

Hillary Libby finished with 14 saves in goal for Winslow (6-2-2).

BOYS SOCCER

LISBON 3, WINTHROP 1: The Greyhounds scored a trio of unanswered goals to pick up an MVC win in Winthrop.

Derek McLaughlin put Winthrop (1-7-2) ahead 1-0 off an assist from Jared McLaughlin with 18:10 remaining in the first half, but Lisbon (7-3-0) responded with a pair of goals within the next three minutes to take the lead for good.

Austin Fournier, Nick Lerette and Ryley Austin each scored goals for the Greyhounds. Jackson Ladd made 20 saves in goal for the Ramblers.

VALLEY 6, TEMPLE ACADEMY 1: Cody Laweryson scored four goals and added an assist to lead the Cavaliers in Bingham.

Keegan Farnham added two goals and an assist for Valley (3-7-1). Collin Miller had an assist for the Cavs. Bradley Smith scored for Temple.

Dillon Beane had 19 saves for Valley, while Timothy Larsen had 19 saves for Temple.

BRUNSWICK 4, LAWRENCE 1: Keenan Welzel scored two goals and added an assist to power the Dragons to the KVAC A victory in Brunswick.

Shane Lyons and Chris Glover also scored for Brunswick (6-3-1).

Parker Towne scored the lone goal for Lawrence (0-11-0) while Max Marin had 14 saves. Pat Blaisdell had an assist for Lawrence as well.
