Rep. Paul Chace, R-Durham, in his recent op-ed column correctly notes in his summary statement that, “We need to take bold action to get where we want to go. Whether we get there depends on our willingness to embrace reality.”

The reality is that without statewide, dependable, fast broadband Internet connections and without strong dependable cellphone service, Maine will continue to have the worst economy of any of the New England states.

We have beautiful scenery across the entire state from mountains to ocean, phenomenal four-season recreational opportunities and cheap housing, and yet young entrepreneurs who would otherwise love to live here cannot tolerate the lack of investment made in technology.

Yes, let’s tackle reality and improve the only infrastructure that matters if we want to grow this economy.
