WESTFIELD — A Maine energy company says it has installed the largest privately owned solar facility in the state at a farm operation near the far northern border with Canada.

Maine Energy Performance Solutions of Washington says it installed the solar facility at Smith’s Farm’s cooling and packing facility in Westfield. Smith’s Farm is a Presque Isle business that markets broccoli, cauliflower and other vegetables under the Stag Brand.

Maine Energy Performance Solutions says the solar system is expected to produce 310,000 kilowatt hours per year. It has a total of 720 solar panels.
