WILTON – Wilton selectmen will be holding their regularly scheduled meeting at the Public Safety Building at 7 p.m. Tuesday night.

The board typically holds its meetings at the town office, but since Election Day polling will be going on there until 8 p.m., a move in venue was necessary.

“Instead of canceling our meeting, we decided we had a full enough agenda to discuss to move (the location) instead,” Town Manager Rhonda Irish said.

Selectmen will discuss several items at the meeting involving the town’s revamp of its Wastewater Treatment Plant, including approving the acceptance of federal funding for the project, confirming the hiring of a superintendent for the plant, and awarding the construction contract for the plant.

At a special town meeting last month, Wilton residents approved the acceptance of $4.1 million from the United States Department of Agriculture to fund Phase II of the project which includes an overhaul of the town’s wastewater treatment plant, which hasn’t been upgraded since its construction in 1978.

The selectmen are expected to approve using the USDA Rural Development $2.75 million loan and $1.35 million grant to make upgrades to the plant, which town officials say is at twice its useful life. Phase I of the project involved upgrading pump houses in the water treatment system and was completed last year.

The construction contract for the plant will also be granted by the selectmen Tuesday night. Irish said they will most likely accept a $9.55 million bid from Penta Corporation, but selectmen will also consider a $9.57 million bid from T. Buck Construction and a $9.88 million bid from Apex Construction.

Selectmen will also approve a replacement superintendent for the plant, as the current superintendent, Clayton Putnam, is retiring. After conducting several interviews for the position, Irish has recommended Justin Futia for the position. If Futia is awarded the position, he will relocate from Portland to fulfill the role of superintendent.

Also discussed at Tuesday’s meeting will be the public forum being held Wednesday to give residents an update on the Kineowatha Park Forest Ecosystem Management Plan. The forum will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Public Safety Building.
