Maine State Police say they have arrested the man suspected of robbing a Camden National Bank branch Saturday in the Goggin’s IGA supermarket in Randolph.
Michael Giacomuzzi, 32, of Pittston, was arrested early Wednesday at a Capitol Street home in Pittston. Troopers called him on the phone and used a public address system to contact him. He surrendered without incident at 5 a.m., Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said Wednesday.
Giacomuzzi reportedly lives in Pittston, but he was arrested at the house of a friend where he was staying.
McCausland said state police received a number of tips Saturday evening following the release of surveillance photos Saturday afternoon of both the suspect and the car he drove off in. He made off with $5,900, and none of the money has been recovered.
“I don’t have the specific number of tips,” McCausland said, “but they identified him and the vehicle, and that’s when we started to zero in on him.”
The robbery occurred Saturday afternoon, when a man dressed in dark clothes presented a note in the bank demanding money and stating he had a gun.
McCausland said Giacomuzzi bought a car over the weekend, probably with some of the stolen money.
He is charged with robbery, theft and violating his probation conditions.
State police said Giacomuzzi’s criminal history includes past drug arrests. Giacomuzzi was convicted in early October in Kennebec County of unlawful possession of a scheduled drug. He was fined $400 and given a 364-day jail sentence, with all but 24 hours suspended, and one year of probation.
