Rolling roadblocks scheduled for Tuesday on Interstate 95’s northbound lanes in Fairfield have been rescheduled for Wednesday morning because of traffic volume on the highway, the Maine Department of Transportation said Tuesday afternoon in an email.

The pothole problem began during heavy rain last week in an area where the department is doing bridge repairs.

The rolling roadblocks, with help from the Maine State Police, will take place from 4 to 7 a.m. between mile markers 127 and 133. Message boards are up to alert drivers, the release said.

Each rolling roadblock will slow traffic for about 15 to 20 minutes as crews make pavement repairs, the release said. “Motorists should expect delays and plan accordingly,” the release said.

The release said that because of the continued formation of the potholes during heavy rain, “there is a high probability that previous cold patch repairs will not last for the duration of the current project underway in the area.”

“It is anticipated that paving the lane with hot mix asphalt will prevent continued disruption and inconvenience to travelers during the holiday season due to the failing pavement,” the release said.
