Recent events have set me thinking about the state of the world we live in. Mayhem and killing seem to be the norm as daily news is filled with horrific loss of life from the Paris terrorist attacks to senseless loss of life in our own towns.

I wish I had an answer to the question, “What does it all come down to?” My own belief is valuing the life that God first breathed into man and woman. Cain lost that value of life when he killed his brother Abel, and it has not stopped since.

It is an uphill battle to eradicate ideological thinking that sees any life as a sacrifice. All beliefs have been guilty of taking human life, but most have gotten past that fervor and taken the path of peace rather than violence.

Violence just breeds more violence. Until we as a world can get past violence as a way of expressing revenge or retaliation for an offense, we will have to live from day to day wondering when and where the next loss of innocent life will occur.

We each can by learning to live a life where we put our best foot forward and learn to react to anything in our lives with compassion and love. No one can make us anything we don’t allow it to become; it is our choice to be who and what we are.

It’s a difficult battle to fight, and one I believe can not be fought without a solid faith to follow and lean on. My own choice is to follow as best I can what is taught through the life of Christ. It’s not a WWJD type of life but following an example set by one who understood and understands the value of life.
