AUGUSTA — Health Equity Alliance will present 12:01 Human Ribbon for World AIDS Day, at 12:01 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at the main entrance to the Maine State House, featuring speakers from the alliance and from the local community, according to a news release from the alliance.

People are encouraged to join the alliance and community partners this World AIDS Day to show support for people in the community living with HIV and honoring those who have died because of HIV.

World AIDS Day, celebrated globally since 1988, is a call to action and an opportunity to unite in the fight against HIV worldwide, according to the release. The alliance will gather community members across the state as 12:01 p.m. to create human formations of the red AIDS awareness ribbon.

After remarks from Michael Morrill, the alliance’s community outreach coordinator, organizers will lead participants in a human formation and a moment of silence.

Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders is an alliance community partner.

The Health Equity Alliance creates a world in which all people are valued and celebrated, and health disparities such as HIV, Hepatitis C and AIDS-related deaths are nonexistent.

By facilitating collaboration, education, advocacy and action, the Health Equity Alliance empowers those communities most affected by HIV to improve their health and wellbeing and affect social and cultural change.
