BUCKSPORT — The town of Bucksport has issued a demolition permit for the shuttered Verso Paper Corp. mill and it could come down in December.

WCSH-TV reports American Iron and Metal plans to begin the demolition work in December. The sale of the mill to the Canadian metal recycler was completed in January.

The town is figuring out what it would like to see built on the site. Mayor David Keene says he prefers multiple small industrial businesses that could utilize the power plant and deep water port on the site. Other local officials want an attraction for tourists and locals.

AIM owns the site and says it is working to find businesses or developers to take it over.
