The Fairfield Historical Society will host a tour of its Victorian house, decorated for the holidays from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, and Sunday, Dec. 6.

History House volunteers Marion Foster, Peggy Blair, Barbara Bailey and Marie Cutchin decorated the 42 High St. house with families from town: the Baileys, Bakers, Bentzels, Duplessis’, Fourniers, Groleaus, Julias, McKays, Morrisseaus, Stones, Teagues, Irelands and Toziers.

While the society volunteers concentrated on showing the Victorian decorations of the period, the families chose Christmas themes ranging from “Getting ready for Christmas,” “Christmas around the world,” “Arriving home for the holiday,” “Children’s Christmas,” “Rural or Country Christmas,” to “Christmas Around the Table.” Many of the trees were decorated in ornaments special to the family that decorated them. Exhibits of dresses typical of the period or holidays are included and several society members will also be dressed in costume.

Outside the walkways will be lit by small lanterns leading to the porch festooned in garlands.

Historical society and family members will be in each room to answer questions about the exhibits. Donations and new members to the society are welcome.

The Fairfield History House is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, March through November, and the second Saturday of the month or by appointment. A hands on program is also offered for groups.
