Skowhegan will host a new holiday event, a time to celebrate Light as a symbol of Hope — the Festival of Light. The event is a light-filled display of Angels, Nativity Sets and other symbols of light, sponsored by Centenary United Methodist Church set for 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, and Friday Dec. 11, and 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, in the Fellowship Hall of Centenary United Methodist Church, 113 Dr. Mann Road.

Attendees can view a large variety of Nativity Sets from near and far, fancy and simple, miniature and life size. Visitors can vote for their favorite display, enjoy refreshments of hot cocoa, milk and cookies.

Entertainment on Thursday, Dec. 10, will feature the Boy Scouts at 5 p.m., The Skowhegan Community Orchestra at 6 p.m. The Skowhegan Community Band will provide entertainment at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11.

Visitors may light a Candle of Peace, purchase glow bracelets, and write messages of hope to hang on a tree. Admission is free, but all donations will be used to continue to supply space, heat and light for the many organizations that use the church facility, and that are “points of light” in our community, such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Skowhegan Community Band, Chorus and Orchestra, AA, and the Community Clothes Closet.
