SKOWHEGAN — A transient woman who used several names and moved around the central Maine area frequently was arrested for the second time in less than a week Monday for allegedly attempting to acquire drugs by using a false name.

Laura Anderson, 50, of Lowell, Massachusetts, was arrested about 6:20 p.m. Monday after she was recognized earlier by a pharmacy employee, according to a release from Skowhegan police Chief Donald Bolduc. She had been released from jail on bail conditions earlier in the day Monday.

Anderson was taken into custody at “an area medical facility,” Bolduc said. He did not give the name of the hospital she was taken to.

Anderson was charged with criminal attempted acquiring drugs by deception and violation of conditions of release. She had been arrested on similar charges Thursday. Anderson was found in possession of alcohol, a violation of her bail conditions, Bolduc said.

Anderson also was charged with acquiring drugs by deception, a class C felony, in reference to an ongoing investigation by Officer Katelyn Treylino. Treylino determined that Anderson had been acquiring drugs using false names, and that the amount of pills acquired is in excess of 1,000 units. The investigation remains active.

Anderson was arrested Thursday in Augusta with the assistance of the Augusta Police Department. She had checked into the Trinity Homeless Shelter in Skowhegan under a false name and had gone to local doctors and used false names to receive prescription drugs.

Police found that Anderson used the names Ann Spellman, Mae Anderson and others. Treylino and Detective Joshua King determined she had moved on to Waterville and, after they interviewed people in Waterville, they learned she had since moved on to Augusta.
