A car crossed two median strips, hit a stop sign and struck seven parked vehicles in a Friday afternoon crash at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta.

The vehicle, a gray 2004 Buick sedan, was traveling south when 77-year-old Carol Cochran, of Augusta, suffered an apparent medical event, said Jared Mills, deputy chief of the Augusta Police Department. Her car came to rest next to a number of vehicles, including a Ford Explorer and a Chevrolet Cobalt. The crash happened around 2 p.m.

Mills said none of the vehicles involved was occupied and police and the hospital staff were working to locate the owners of the parked cars.

“It certainly could’ve been a lot worse, so we’re very fortunate,” Mills said.

Hospital officials said several people witnessed the accident, and Mills added that police will review surveillance video of the crash, but he didn’t expect any charges to be filed.

Responders from the Augusta Fire Department secured and stabilized the Buick before immobilizing and removing Cochran. She was admitted to the hospital, where she was listed in fair condition Friday evening.
