A fire destroyed a mobile home on Hunts Hill Road in Gray Saturday afternoon, the town’s fire chief said.

Kurt Elkanich said the fire was reported about 4 p.m. The owner of the mobile home was not in at the time and the fire – which appeared to have started in the kitchen or furnace area – is not considered suspicious, Elkanich said.

The owner’s dog died in the fire, he said, but no one was injured.

It took crews more than two hours to douse the flames, Elkanich said, largely because they had to fight the fire from outside. He said the floors of the mobile home were too badly damaged to allow firefighters to get inside the mobile home.
