Noah Aube, a Cony High School senior and swim team captain, received a scholarship and certificate of distinction from the Fitzgerald-Cummings Post 2 Commander Pat Eisenhart for competing in the American Legion National Oratorical contest. Aube will represent the Post in Augusta at the Kennebec County level of competition this month at the Maine Veterans’ Home. He is an Eagle Scout and holds high academic honors.

Since the 1938 inception of the contest, Maine students have come close to winning the national competition. In each of the three preceding years, Maine students made it to the quarterfinals. Each walked away with a total of $4,000 in scholarships.

The winner of the Kennebec County competition will receive additional scholarships and will advance to the state competition set for Feb. 20 at Thomas College. The state winner will receive a $1,500 scholarship and all-expense paid trip with chaperone to national competition.

The 2016 National Finals are set for April 16-17 at the Wyndham Indianapolis West Hotel, 2544 Executive Drive, Indianapolis, Indiana. Quarterfinal and semifinal contests are scheduled for Saturday, April 16, with the finals scheduled for Sunday, April 17.
