AUGUSTA — Capital Area Technical Center recently announced its January Students of the Month.

Alison Berube is a senior from Winthrop enrolled for the second year in the business academy. Her instructor, Angela Dostie, said in a CATC news release, “Alison is a conscientious student who pays close attention to detail and strives for excellence in all of her dual enrollment classes.” Berube will graduate from high school with 57 dual enrollment college credits because of her efforts at both Capital Area Technical Center and Winthrop High School. She plans to study economics as an undergraduate, earn her MBA and eventually a PhD. She would love to work for the government some day.

Cody Elsemore is junior from Erskine Academy enrolled in the electrical technology program. His instructor, Michael Parent, said in the news release, “Cody is a great student. He comes excited to learn every day. He doesn’t just want to know information, but he strives to understand how things work.” This makes sense because Elsemore says his favorite part of the class is troubleshooting. He feels his greatest accomplishment this year was earning a bronze medal in the local SkillsUSA electrical competition, where he beat out seniors and second year students for this award. He plans to return to the electrical program next year to continue working on his goal which is to have a career as an electrician.
