The U.S. National Toboggan Championships in Camden will be held on Saturday only, instead over three days this weekend as originally planned.

Event officials announced Friday they are working with the Camden Snow Bowl to create an alternative toboggan chute on a trail at Ragged Mountain, instead of using a chute that would have taken racers to Hosmer Pond. The change was prompted after wardens from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife decided that the pond’s ice cover is not thick enough to ensure the safety of racers and spectators.

The U.S. National Toboggan Championships, now in their 26th year, are part of the annual Camden Winterfest activities.
