WEST FARMINGTON — Maranacook teammates Luca DeAngelis and Abby Despres captured the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference boys and girls freestyle Nordic skiing titles, respectively, on Wednesday at Titcomb Mountain.

Despres posted a time of 19:07.1 to hold off teammate Laura Parent (19:10.0), as Maranacook placed four finishers in the top six with Jaycee Greeley and Taylor Cray finishing in fifth and sixth, respectively. Meg Charles, of Mt. Blue, was third in 19:15.7.

In the KVAC boys race, DeAngelis coasted to the win with a time of 15:40.8 to finish nearly 11 seconds ahead of Leavitt’s Jarod Farrar. Mt. Blue’s Tucker Barber and Liam Welch were third and fourth, respectively.

The freestyle section of the Mountain Valley Conference championships was also held Wednesday at Titcomb. Dirigo’s Keenan Martin posted a time of 17:18.3 to win the boys race while Telstar’s Carla Boyle-Wight took the girls competition in 19:46.5.

Monmouth’s Becki Bryant placed second in 20:13.0 to lead a strong contingent of Mustangs as Madi Bumann took fifth and Shayna Frost sixth. Winthrop’s Jada Choate placed third in 20:27.9. In the boys race, Martin was followed by Mt. Abram’s Xavier Romanoski in 17:32.1, while Monmouth’s Ethan Thombs placed fifth and Winthrop’s Vincent Scott took sixth.

The final day of the KVAC/MVC skiing championships will be held Thursday at Black Mountain with Alpine starting at 9:30 a.m. and Nordic at 2:30 p.m.

BOYS HOCKEY

WATERVILLE 3, CAMDEN HILLS 1: Jackson Aldrich had a goal and an assist to pace the Purple Panthers to the win.

Matt Joliceour and Andrew Roderigue also scored for Waterville (15-1-1). Michael Bolduc and Justin Wentworth each had an assist. Nathan Pinnette made 23 saves.

James Orne scored for Camden Hills (13-3-0). Zach Hand stopped 24 shots.

LAKE REGION/FRYEBURG/OXFORD HILLS 1, LAWRENCE/SKOWHEGAN 1: Curtis Martin made 27 saves as the Bandits settled for a tie with the Ice Cats at Sukee Arena.

Nolan Despres had the lone goal for Lawrence/Skowhegan (4-10-1) off an assist from Todd Gibbons.

Caleb Currier had the goal for Lake Regions/Fryeburg/Oxford Hills (3-10-2) while Trent Spaulding made 33 saves in goal.

BOYS BASKETBALL

KENTS HILL 55, GOULD 50: Trevor Guity scored 16 points as the Huskies improved to 8-6 on the season.

Luke Arsenault and Patrick Robertson each scored 12 points for Kents Hill while Tory Brown chipped in with 11.
