AUGUSTA — A man was hospitalized in the critical care unit of MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta and a woman was behind bars Saturday following a stabbing Friday night in the city.

Sgt. Vicente Morris, of the Augusta Police Department, said police received a call from someone saying a man was being brought into the Augusta hospital with stab wounds about 6:38 p.m. Friday.

“The investigation led to a suspect who was later arrested for domestic violence assault,” Morris said Saturday.

Tracy L. Fleischer, 34, was being held without bail Saturday in the Kennebec County jail on a charge of elevated aggravated assault.

Morris said he could not provide more details because the investigation is continuing and because he wanted to protect the victim’s privacy. He said Fleischer did not suffer any apparent injuries.

Published records show that Fleischer was arrested in June 2015 in Augusta on a charge of aggravated assault. The outcome of that charge was unavailable Saturday.
