State police on Tuesday continued to investigate a Monday rollover involving a tractor-trailer hauling a wind turbine base on U.S. Route 201 in The Forks.

Sgt. Matt Casavant, of Maine State Police Troop C in Skowhegan, said troopers were escorting the loaded truck from the Quebec border to a wind energy project in Bingham when the driver lost control on a corner in Johnson Mountain Township just before 9 a.m. Monday. The truck, trailer and load slid off the road, taking out a Central Maine Power pole before coming to rest, blocking the northbound lane of U.S. 201.

The tractor was driven by Frederic Mercier, 30, of Levis, Quebec, Casavant said in a release.

The truck is owned by Transport Tricam of Saint-Henri-de-Levis, Quebec.

No injuries were reported.

Recovery of the load was part of the investigation Tuesday. State police expect the wind turbine base to be on the side of the highway until equipment arrives to move the load safely. Drivers are urged to use caution through the area as portions of U.S. 201 were damaged in the crash.

State police were assisted at the scene by the West Forks Fire Department, the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Transportation.

Power and phone service were knocked out by the crash, and CMP and Fairpoint responded to restore both.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, Casavant said.
