RICHMOND — Before Richmond’s comprehensive plan goes before voters in a referendum at the state’s primary election on June 14, town residents will have two chances to have their say about it.

So far, Victoria Boundy said, people have had minor comments on the document, which without appendices comes in at 150 pages.

Boundy, Richmond’s director of Community and Economic Development, said two public hearings are scheduled for the plan, which guides town elected officials in planning and policy decisions. The first is at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Marcia Buker School at 28 High St., and the second is scheduled for 6 p.m. June 1, also at Marcia Buker School.

Town residents will also have the opportunity to hear about the plan at Richmond’s Town Meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 7 at Richmond High School, where Boundy said she’ll be staffing an informational table about the plan.

The vote will cap off months of work in updating the document that will help the town officials make policy and planning decisions over the next decade or so.

“The plan contains so much information and it has been compiled by so many people over time,” Boundy said, so if residents find anything that needs correction, she hopes they will let Comprehensive Plan Committee members know.

“Our intention is that this will be a living document,” she said.

If it’s approved, she said, the town plans to appoint an implementation committee to make sure that Richmond officials are completing the work that’s set out in the plan and to provide periodic reviews.

“Things are bound to change over time,” she said.

Boundy said the plan has already been evaluated by the state, which found that complies with the state’s Growth Management Act.

Copies of the plan are available at the town office at 26 Gardiner St., the Isaac F. Umberhine Library at 86 Main St., and on the town’s website, www.richmondmaine.com.
