FAIRFIELD — A driver from Whitefield escaped injury Tuesday afternoon when his truck skidded off Norridgewock Road, snapped a utility pole and overturned.

Fairfield police Officer Patrick Mank said Richard Potter III, 19, was driving a red 2011 Chevy Silverado pickup truck equipped with a dump body when he lost control about 2:20 p.m. Tuesday.

Mank said Potter was lucky he was wearing a seatbelt. Potter was alone in the truck, and no other vehicle was involved in the crash, according to the officer.

Potter was driving north on Norridgewock Road, which is Route 139, when he “veered off right, skimmed one pole and hit another pole, cutting the pole in half and overturned,” Mank said.

Mank said the pickup truck had heavy front-end damage and was destroyed.

“He didn’t have any injuries,” Mank said. “He was checked out, as protocol, but he was fine. He’s glad he had his seatbelt on, that’s for sure.”

Fairfield police officers Matt Wilcox and Jordan Brooks assisted at the scene, as did Fairfield Med One and Delta Ambulance. Police and rescue personnel cleared the scene just after 3:30 p.m.
