The Franklin County Retired Educators recently attended a presentation by Strong Elementary educational technician Heidi Richards and five students who participated in an after-school art enrichment program during the winter.

The Artful Endeavors program was funded by the Retired Educators and ran for seven weekly meetings for third, fourth and fifth graders. The students investigated a variety of paint media and then created their own works of art using different painting techniques.

Students Isabelle Danala, Lydia Chapman, Kylie Estabrook, Lily Brault and Addie Finn represented the 16 participants and showed samples of their work to the retirees. Their work will be on display June 6 at the school’s spring concert.

Following lunch, the retired educators had a discussion of possible programs for the 2016-17 year. Suggestions included traditional activities, speakers and places to visit. Final decisions will be made during the summer.

The meeting closed with a ceremony conducted by Nora Thombs honoring educators from Franklin County who died during the past year. Special poems and white roses were presented for FCRE deceased members Fran Hardy and Dan Hylan.
