AUGUSTA — University of Maine at Augusta Professor Emeritus Barry Farber received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from the UMA at the university’s 2016 commencement exercises in Augusta earlier this month.

During his 47 year teaching career, Farber spent 25 years as a professor of business at UMA where he contributed as a teacher, a leader and a mentor.

“Throughout his tenure at UMA, Professor Barry Farber spent countless time and effort contributing to not only UMA’s business program, but to the institution as a whole,” said President James at Conneely at UMA’s May 2016 Commencement Ceremony according to a UMA news release.

“He went above and beyond by spending many lunches with local civic and business leaders in the community, and discussing new initiatives and direction for UMA’s Business Program,” he added.

Farber began his career at Thomas College in Waterville on a national teaching fellowship, and then moved on to serve as a full-time faculty member at UMA where he was awarded Professor Emeritus of Business for his important academic contributions.

Farber has also taught as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Colby College in Waterville and as a Visiting Lecturer at Bates College in Lewiston. Bates College recognized his service by ranking him a Lecturer Emeritus.

Now retired, Farber and his wife Susan split their time between Sidney and Gulfport, Florida.
