Gardiner Area High School has announced its delegates and alternates for the 2016 Dirigo Boys/Girls State. Girls State will take place later this month at Husson University in Bangor. Boys State will take place later this month at Thomas College in Waterville.

Hunter Russell, son of Elizabeth and Kevin Russell, of West Gardiner, is a member of the National Honor Society and plans to attend the U.S. Naval Academy Seminar Program this summer. He also is a member of the high school chorus and participated in the Literary Festival this year. Russell received academics awards in Spanish I, Investigating Science and English. He played football, hockey, and track and field. He also volunteered with youth and middle school track as well as Day of Caring. Gardiner Rotary Club is his sponsor.

Benjamin Babcock is the son of Kevin and Veronica Babcock, of Gardiner. He is a member of the National Honor Society and has maintained high honors in high school. He is also a member of the high school chorus and Show Choir. He played golf, soccer, basketball and track. Babcock has volunteered at Bible camp, youth basketball, and with Day of Caring. His sponsor is the American Legion Smith-Wiley Post 4.

Elijah Kropp, son of Theron Kropp Jr. and Cynthia Kropp, of Wales, maintained highest honors in high school, is a nominated recipient of the Rotary Student of the Month Award, and is a member of the high school chorus. Kropp received excellence in academics awards including Algebra II Honors, World Cultures Honors, US History Honors and Spanish I. He played football, track and basketball earning the KVAC “A” Senior Award. He also volunteered with the food pantry, church suppers, coaching youth basketball, as a counselor at Camp Mechuwana, and with Day of Caring. Gardiner-Augusta Lions Club is his sponsor.

Marc Cloutier is the son of Marc and Sonia Cloutier, of Gardiner. He partcipated in the Titan Challenge and played basketball. Cloutier also volunteered at the soup kitchen and with Day of Caring. His sponsor is the Gardiner Federal Credit Union.

Donovan Farris, son of Jason Farris, of Gardiner, is the recipient of the nominated Rotary Student of the Month Award, the Athletic Award, and the Coaches Award. He played hockey and lacrosse. He also volunteered as a junior firefighter and with Day of Caring. Camden National Bank is his sponsor.

Sarah Morgan is the daughter of Charles and Marla Morgan, of Gardiner. She is a member of the National Honor Society, prom committee, a student council representative, and class council secretary. She is a nominated recipient of the Rotary Student of the Month Award, and maintains highest honors in high school. She received excellence in academics awards in Intro to Art, English, Reading for Fun, French I and II, Geometry Honors, Investigating Science, English Honors, Career and Tech, Statistics and Trigonometry, Biology, and U.S. History. She played field hockey, earning a place on the All Rookie Team — KVAC Coaches Association, and ice hockey, serving as the team’s assistant captain. She also volunteered as a patient transport at MaineGeneral, a counselor with Rousseau’s Ice Hockey Clinic, and with Day of Caring. Her sponsor is the Gardiner Rotary Club.

Gabrielle Cooper, daughter of Amy and Mark Cooper, of Pittston, is a member of the National Honor Society, the high school band, jazz band, Band Board, Latin Club, prom committee, Class Council, serving as president for three years, and a participant in Pizazz productions. She is also a nominated recipient of the Rotary Student of the Month Award. Cooper was a runner up in the Poetry Out Loud competition and a nominated participant of the HOBY Leadership Conferences where she was selected as a junior facilitator. She received excellence in academics awardsin Latin I and II, Health, and Honors English. Coopers has volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Spectrum Generations, Adult Daybreak, Day of Caring, as an altar server at her church, and a board member of the Open Book Players. The Gardiner Augusta Lions Club is her sponsor.

Mary Toman is the daughter of Jim and Jackie Toman, of Gardiner. She is a member of the National Honor Society and a Student Council representative. She received excellence in academics awards in Intro to Art, Video Production, English, Honors Geometry, Career and Tech, French I and II, Honors Algebra II and Biology. She played soccer, softball and basketball, earning a place on Second Team KVAC and selected as Kennebec Journal Player of the Year. Tomas has volunteered with youth sports and with Day of Caring. Her sponsor is the American Legion Auiliary Post 4.

Melanie Mansir, daughter of Joseph Mansir, of South Gardiner, is a member of the National Honor Society, the high school band, prom committee, Student Council, serving as representative, the Civil Rights Team, serving on their advisory board, and the Drama Club. Mansir played a role in all drama and musical productions throughout her career at GAHS. She is a member of the outdoor track team. She has volunteered with Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Day of Caring. Gardiner Federal Credit Union is her sponsor.

Sierra Goodridge is the daughter of Sara Goodridge, of Gardiner. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the National Congress of Future Medical Leaders, the high school band, Jazz Band, Band Board, serving as Vice-President and Historian, Math Team, Civil Rights Team, District Wellness Committee, Class Council, where she served as fundraiser and spirit chairperson, Key Club, Yearbook, serving as editor, Student Council representative, Latin Club, and Upward Bound. Goodridge received excellence in academics awards in Career amd Technology, Anatomy & Physiology, Honors English, and Latin II. She played field hockey, indoor track, cross country and outdoor track. Goodridge volunteered with the Waterville Humane Society, Pooch’s Secondhand Shop, local elementary schools, and with Day of Caring. Her sponsor is Staples Funeral Services.

Hillary Colby, daughter of Nicole Breedlove, of Gardiner, is a nominated recipient of the Rotary Student of the Month Award and a student representative for the District School Board. She volunteered at Laura E. Richards Elementary School, with the Cinderella Project, and with Day of Caring. Colby is an alternate for the 2016 Dirigo Girls State program.
